FARGO, ND — National Hospitality Services (NHS) was named Leader in Women’s Empowerment at the YWCA Women of the Year Event. The criteria to be nominated for this award is that the business must prove remarkable dedication to the advancement of women by empowering them to thrive socially, economically, and professionally. NHS upholds the mission of the YWCA by empowering women at every level of the organization to achieve their goals by providing opportunity and education through training and mentoring.

The hospitality industry has been traditionally male dominated with senior management positions and hotel General Management positions being held in the majority, by men. NHS as an organization has stepped away from that tradition by promoting and empowering women; paving a path for success and creating an almost exclusively female executive and senior management team. Those women in turn have provided training and mentoring to empower women in entry level positions at the hotels they manage such as front desk agents and housekeepers, allowing them the opportunity for promotion through the ranks and in multiple examples into hotel General Managers overseeing multi-million dollar hotels. Today, the majority of NHS hotels are managed by a female General Managers.

“The NHS culture is experienced at all levels of the company, from the highest female executives, to the guests staying at an NHS-managed property”, wrote Holly A. Jackson, of Durell + Jackson PLC, who provided her support to NHS’s nomination for the prestigious award.

NHS encourages the General Managers at each of its properties to seek out ways for their hotel and employees to serve in each of their communities throughout the country through volunteering, providing shelter to those in need during emergencies, and fundraising for charitable organizations. “Being in the hospitality industry, the staff gains inspiration from the many people they interact with daily,” said Sarah Koustrup, Executive Vice President of National Hospitality Services. “this encourages each of them to go above and beyond to create lasting memories exceeding the guests’ expectations, leaving a legacy of a welcoming atmosphere in each community we are a part of.”
